About the Summit
Every disaster is local first.
A flood arrives in one valley. An earthquake takes one road. The figures are global; every event inside them happens somewhere specific, to people who live there.
WSDM 2026 gathers researchers, scientists, policymakers, practitioners and industry leaders from around the world and points all of it at a single question: what makes a community able to absorb a shock and recover. It is organised by the Himalayan Academy of Science & Technology, in a state that has to answer that question every year.

Intelligence, Infrastructure, Innovation, Inclusion and Investment. The sequence by which a region knows a risk, builds against it, and pays for what comes next.

I encourage all stakeholders to leverage science and technology, strengthen risk intelligence and early warning systems, invest in resilient infrastructure and place communities at the heart of disaster management. Let us transform lessons from disasters into actionable strategies that safeguard lives, livelihoods and ecosystems, particularly in the vulnerable Himalayan region.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh Hon'ble Governor, Uttarakhand -
Together, let us anticipate risks, strengthen resilience at the grassroots and create a future where disasters cause fewer disruptions to lives and livelihoods, and where communities are empowered to face emerging challenges with confidence.
